How Xilytics scores are built, and what every one of the metrics behind them means.

Attacking

  • Non-penalty goals (per 90)
    Goals from open play and set pieces, penalties excluded.
  • Expected goals (per 90)
    The quality of chances taken, in goals.
  • Finishing edge (per 90)
    Goals scored minus expected goals. Positive means over-performing.
  • Assists (per 90)
    Passes that led to a goal.
  • Shots (per 90)
    Attempts at goal.
  • Shots on target (per 90)
  • Shot accuracy (%)
    Share of shots that hit the target.
  • Big chances missed (per 90)
  • Offsides (per 90)
  • Woodwork (season)

Passing

  • Passes (per 90)
  • Pass accuracy (%)
    Share of passes that find a team-mate.
  • Key passes (per 90)
    Passes that lead directly to a shot.

    Passes that set up a clear scoring opportunity.

    Passes played behind the defensive line.

    Successful challenges that win the ball.

    Opposition passes cut out.

    Balls hacked away from danger.

    Times an opponent beat this player one-on-one. Lower is better.

Goalkeeping

    Share of shots on target that were kept out.
  • Saves (per 90)
    Shots kept out. Volume follows how exposed the defence is.
  • Saves in the box (per 90)
  • In-box save share (%)
    Share of saves made from inside the penalty area.
  • Goals conceded (per 90)
    Goals let in. Lower is better.
  • Clean sheet rate (%)
    Share of appearances without conceding.
  • Penalties saved (season)
